What in the Word Is the GPS?

Someone please explain to me what is the GPS? In laymen's language please, without all that engineering and electronic gobbledegook. GPS is a mystery till I get the story straight. It's a message from the sky!

Well, the GPS, (which means Global Positioning System) now being used in planes, cars, tractors, etc., is a single source, stand alone navigation system, that does not rely on line-of-sight or (deduced) ded reckoning, or ground to airplane radio signals, and makes precise positioning knowledge possible from the sky. It depends upon receiving signals from several satellites, and is available 24 hours a day. It is so accurate, a plane can track to the runway threshold within one metre distance from a thousand miles away, in all kinds of weather, or a car to pull up in front of any house on any street anywhere in the world.

Started With The Military, Now Everyone Uses It
That's why taxi drivers can get you to your destination quicker, and why the military use them for precise bombing of distant targets. They proved themselves useful first in the Gulf War of 1990.

Ask Me Where I Am And I'll Tell You Where I'm Going
GPS's come in panel mounts, hand held and various battery operated portable models. It's a modern miracle that a user can know exactly where he is on the face of this earth (lat. & long.) at any moment, with an arrow pointing to his destination, showing exact distance-to-run, ground speed, time interval and magnetic heading to hold, at the flick of a switch!

Save Yourself a Lot of Money
Farmers can plough their massive paddocks with a GPS in their tractor with pin-point accuracy, steering around rivers and obstacles, thus gaining every possible inch of their useable land.

Here's How It Works
The GPS systems comprises around 24 satellites circling the earth at approximately 18,000 klms altitude, along with ground based facilities to monitor and control the satellites. (On a clear night, you can often see two or three of them with the naked eye, circling, circling, circling.) The GPS in the plane or car tunes in to them.

Satellites Come And Go
Units acquire signals from several of these satellites while they are circling the earth. During a normal cross country trip, the GPS receiver will process signals from at least three and up to a dozen of these satellites, transferring automatically to the next as some disappear over the horizon and others emerge.

We Remain The Same
The unit processes the exact time it takes for the signal to travel from satellite to receiver and back to determine the units' exact position. They have shown themselves to be the safest and most accurate form or navigation that has ever been available to mankind on the earth or in the sky.

Uses Are Limitless
Thus, the use of GPS has become a necessary aid, and future applications of the GPS system seems to be limitless. And nowadays, countless millions of human beings are depending upon the GPS system to tell them where they are where they are going. Even to plot a spot on the ground for your house or den; it'll do it! Or grave site even!

What About God's GPS?

While this is an amazing achievement on earth, it's still true that only an Almighty Jehovah God can truly relay to mankind that kind of information, for their benefit, for now and the future. He has a remarkable GPS.

So, for God's GPS ... see Proverbs 3:5-6, and St. John Chapter #3, v. 3 in the Holy Bible for God's direction indicator for time and eternity.

Here it is: God's GPS or, God's Plan of Salvation

GPS: God's Plan of Salvation

1. Hear and consider and respond to the Gospel of The Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 10:13-17: "'Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.' How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: 'How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, Who bring glad tidings of good things!'" But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, 'Lord, who has believed our report?' So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

2. Believe the Gospel about the life and death of Jesus Christ.

Mark 16:15-16: "[Jesus] said to them, 'Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.'"

3. Repent of your sins and turn to Jesus for Salvation.

Acts 17:30: "Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent...." 2 Peter 3:9, "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance."

4. Confess Jesus as your new Lord - first to Him, and then, with others.

Romans 10:10: "With the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Acts 8:36-37, "Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, 'See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?' Then Philip said, 'If you believe with all your heart, you may.' And he answered and said, 'I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.'"

5. Join in with your local Bible believing Church, and follow their directions in your new life in Christ.

Hebrews 10:25: "Forsake not the assembling of yourselves together ...." In Obedience, consider water baptism, and sharing in the Lord's Supper with other believers. Become part of a home study group each week, and grow strong in your new faith. Practice the Holy Walk with the Lord day by day.

6. Be faithful in all of your life, up to the time of your human death.

Revelation 2:10, "Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life."

Be sure to discuss this with your local Bible believing and practicing Christian minister or friend, and ensure that you become a witness to others of what Jesus Christ is doing for you. Email Outback Patrol and share your good news with us too ...
