Don't Back Out on the Outback

Well-known Christian journalist Donald Prout wrote words for a song about the work of Outback Patrol. It takes Les Nixon's Patrol Motto as it's theme.

His lyrics are sung heartily to the tune of "Take me out the Ball-Game," and people really get into it when we sing it in our public meetings. It goes like this:

Don't Back Out On The Outback

Don't back out on the out-back
In the back of beyond.
Waiting to hear of a Saviour Who
Offers Redemption and Life that's A-New,
So, now, don't back out on the out-back
From Bourke to Oo-oo-la-roo,
So now Pray! Give! and Go with the Gospel,
And May God Bless You.

Don't back out on the out-back
Don't back out on those folks,
A sheep station here and a homestead there
We of the ne-e-ever, never must hear
So now don't back out on the in-land,
Offer His Love and His Care

These lyrics were scribbled on the back of a flight plan by Donald Prout during a one-hour flight in a Cessna 402 between Broken Hill and Condobolin NSW in 1988, with a little help from Richie Gunston, Graham Sharman and Les Nixon.
